Liability only (WA) car insurance

A Liability only (WA) car insurance is mandatory in the Netherlands for all motor vehicles. Everyone who owns a motorized vehicle must have at least a Liability only insurance. The Liability only (WA) car insurance covers all damage caused to others with your car.

The most commonly chosen coverage for cars older than 10 years is a Liability only (WA) insurance. This insurance protects you if you cause damage to someone else's car. Also assistance falls under this coverage, for example if you are standing by the side of the road with a breakdown at home or abroad. Does your car need to be towed or do you need to return home from abroad? That is covered under this insurance. But: you are not insured against theft, burglary or other forms of damage to your own car. So your car will be towed for you, but you will have to pay for the damage yourself. You are insured for roadside assistance both in the Netherlands and abroad. Hereby you have assistance if you are standing along the road and transport to the garage and storage of your car. You are also entitled to replacement transportation and transportation to a place in the Netherlands for the car and passengers will be arranged. An ordinary repair is not covered by roadside assistance.
